CADS CE Study Club: Non-Dental tooth Pain and TMJ Pain That is Resistant to Treatment. How to Diagnose and Treat

Event Description:

40% of patients you see who come in with pain do not have dental pathology. Dr. Cohen will present information on how to recognize tooth pain that is not related to teeth. Many patients have TMJ pain that does not respond to usual treatment and are referred for surgery. Dr. Cohen will present information about use of advanced appliance therapy, PRP, PRF, and Prolotherapy to treat these cases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Diagnostic techniques: Including nerve testing, palpations use of trigger point injections topical anesthetic and nerve blocks
  • Treatment: Including use of injections of Botox, PRP, PRF, Dextrose, as well as physical therapy, topical medications, oral medication and oral appliances


Meet The Speaker:

SpeakerDr. Cohen is the founder of Southwest Orofacial Group, a multidisciplinary orofacial pain management clinic, where he was Medical Director for over 30 years.

Dr. Cohen has lectured extensively nationally and internationally and hen is a section editor for the Journal “Cranio" and is a frequent reviewer for several Journals including the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), American Headache Society, and many others. Dr. Cohen is past president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the American Board of Orofacial Pain ( and Diplomate), and a diplomate of the Academy of Integrative Pain Management. He is a member of many professional organizations and is honored to be selected as a fellow in the American and International College Of Dentists. He is also a Fellow of the American Headache Society,

He is an Assistant Professor at the Arizona School for Dentistry and Oral Health, where he is director of the Orofacial Pain Clinic, and is currently Adjunct faculty at the Orofacial Pain Center at UCLA.

Dr Cohen is also the Commissioner for Orofacial Pain (OFP)for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). In this role, he is chair of the review committee that sets the standards for the curricula of all the OFP residency programs.
